Description
Silver Salmon Creek runs through Lake Clark National Park and empties into Cook Inlet. Where it does, it divides the area into 2 sections, aptly named North Beach and South Beach. Bears and people alike move from one beach to the other, the bears for the clams and fish, and the people to follow the bears. It's not a deep river, so the bears have no problem taking the shortcut straight across the mouth of the river. Some people don hip waders and follow the bears through mud, sand and flowing, rising, receding waters from one beach to the other. But most cross further inland where guided ATVs find better traction in the rocky riverbed and a scenic view of Slope Mountain, sedge meadow and golden late day sun.
