According to Wikipedia, Enchanted Rock covers approximately 640 acres (260 ha) and rises approximately 425 feet (130 m) above the surrounding terrain to elevation of 1,825 feet (556 m) above sea level. It is the largest such pink granite monadnock in the United States.
As the star attraction of Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, many come to walk to the top of the rock. But it was mid-afternoon, strong spring sunshine was baking the treeless walk up and we’d already enjoyed our views of the surrounding area from up close. So instead, we followed spots of shade and bluebonnets along Sandy Creek as it edged the base of the rock. A path less traveled but views just as enchanting.
