With thousands of Sandhill Cranes flocking to the safety of the river to roost for the night, our first evening in the Platte River Valley brought sights and sounds beyond expectation. Just like the ocean, waves (of cranes) flowed without end. Though darkness soon made it hard to see them, their calls continued to rise from all directions, getting louder as they approached the river. A few particularly loud voices, made me lift my gaze and, literally, sent me to the moon... A line of Sandhills heading west flew right over our heads, past the Moon and Venus.
