Wonderful capture! Hope they make it!!

Sylvia J Zarco replied:

I can't say for sure but in 2007 when I took this picture, sea ice came so they had good chance to make it. Last year though was warm and ice came very late. So I continue to hope they make it... Thank You for your wonderful comments Joy!

What a wonderful capture! Lucky you to have had such an experience.

Sylvia J Zarco replied:

Thank you! Really was an amazing experience and I know how lucky I am to have gone. Had moved this trip up in my "Must see before I die" list because of global warming... Hope I get there again and still find it home to many bears.

Artist's Description

Wapask National Park, Canada. Late fall at Cape Churchill, polar bears patrol shorelines waiting for the waters of Hudson Bay to return to ice. Their only hope is to winter on sea ice for without it, they can't hunt and they will slowly starve. So as a mother bear leads her cubs on a walking vigil on the shore, I wonder...
With miles to go before they sleep, do we not have promises to keep?
